More and more health commentators are now talking about the impact synthetic fragrance is having on our health. It is getting serious now for businesses using them – with lawyers now involved. Legal experts are now advising companies to create fragrance free workplaces to avoid potential lawsuits from the impact these toxic scents can and are having on our health. They liken it to the 60s when people started complaining about the effects of second-hand tobacco smoke. Yet, synthetic fragrance is becoming so pervasive in products – from perfumes, soaps, lotions through to washing and cleaning products. And now department stores, hotels and shops all pumping their signature scents into the air we breathe. Yet 19% of the population has adverse reactions to it and 30% find them irritating. At Bondi Wash all our team members (we are a sensitive bunch) get headaches from scented cleaning or beauty products or pungently fragranced retail spaces.
