Rosella oil (hibiscus sabdariffa seed oil) is often referred to as the ‘botox’ of the natural beauty community. A member of the hibiscus family, Rosella is found in the rainforest and sand dune regions of the tropical north of Australia. The source of the plants’ incredible power for the skin lies in the high concentration of Vitamin C found in it’s bright red flowers.
Vitamin C has long been touted in the beauty community as a hero ingredient for skin, proving especially effective in anti-ageing products. The vitamin is incredibly high in antioxidants which fight free radicals and help to safe guard the skin from environmental damage from the sun and pollution. Aside from the boost of antioxidants, Vitamin C has also been shown to increase collagen production in the skin. This is potentially why it is being added to anti-ageing formulations across the market. Collagen is the most abundant naturally occurring protein in our bodies and is responsible for giving our skin it’s elasticity. Over time our bodies’ production of collagen naturally decreases which is why we see signs of ageing in our skin.
Rosella oil is also a naturally occurring form of AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids) which help to increase cell turnover and fight hyper-pigmentation. We are currently seeing a rise in the beauty world of chemical versions of AHAs which are super harsh and strip the skin of it’s natural oils, sometimes even damaging the skin further. The benefit of naturally occurring AHAs is that they exfoliate the skin and help to reduce pores and even the complexion without stripping the skin of moisture.
Packed with collagen stimulating Vitamin C and naturally occurring AHAs, Rosella oil also packs a punch in the moisture arena. Mucilage is a naturally occurring substance produced by plants to store water and food. This natural emollient is found in high concentrations in Rosella oil and helps to soften and intensely hydrate the skin, protecting it from environmental damage. Rosella oil is found in our Purifying Night Balm specifically formulated to deeply nourish and refine the skin.
