THE STORY BEHIND OUR STAY AWAY RANGE
Last summer we played around with creating a natural insect repellent. We blended oils we knew repelled insects into a balanced fragrance and created samples to give friends and family for testing and feedback. Oils we worked with included Lemon Tea Tree, Lemon-scented Eucalyptus and Lemon Myrtle – so we called the scent Native Lemon. We knew we had something special when people kept asking for more – and even friends of friends asking to purchase it. But launching a product takes more than this. We always test our products on people with sensitive skin – and did tweak the formulation to reduce irritating oils. And the product needs to be stable, so getting the mix of ingredients right took some time. While testing the product, we received feedback that the Spray also reduced inflammation of existing bites. We had included Australian Blue Cypress as a base note in the scent, which repels insects but also is known for reducing inflammation – so this is a lovely bonus from the formulation. While researching natural ingredients that repel insects we came across andiroba oil from the Amazon. We tried to include it in our Spray, but as it is quite dense, we just could not get it stable. But we were able to include it in cream form – and our Stay Away Cream will be launching next month. People can choose either the Spray or the Cream for insect protection, or use both applying the cream first and topping up with the Spray as required.
