THE BEST DOG FRIENDLY BEACHES IN AUSTRALIA

Australia is blessed with a number of beautiful beaches and although we are spoilt for choice, it can be difficult to find dog-friendly options that can be enjoyed with your furry-loved ones.  We have compiled a list of a few of our favourites below:  

NEW SOUTH WALES

Kutti Beach; a relatively small harbour side beach in Vaucluse, located between Parsley Bay and Watsons Bay.  Dogs are permitted on the beach and in the water as long as they are kept on a leash.

Greenhills Beach; one of the only dog-friendly ocean beaches in Sydney with access for dog-owners restricted from 4pm to 10am. 

Rose Bay foreshore; is off-leash waterfront that stretches between Dumaresq Reserve to Tingira Memorial Reserve.

Horderns Beach, Bundeena; located in the Royal National Park and a short ferry ride from Cronulla.  Roam free from May through to August and before 8.30am and after 4.30pm weekdays from September through to April.

Tallow Beach, Byron Bay; starting at Jarman Street and extending north to the Boundary of Arakwal National Park.

Horseshoe Bay, Newcastle; a great place for dogs to swim with minimal waves.

McCauley Beach, Thirroul; a popular spot with smaller creeks perfect for pups.

QUEENSLAND

Sunshine Beach, Noosa; off-leash access between Marcus and Sunrise Beach and from Sunshine Beach north to the spit.  Peregian Beach is also a good option.

Tallebudgera off-leash dog beach, Palm Beach; located on the North side of the Tallebudgera SLSC, overlooking Burleigh Heads National Park.

Red Beach, Bribie Island; located north of the Moreton bay region, and one of the only Queensland islands connected to the mainland by bridge - allowing easy access.

Bucasia Beach, Mackay; a long stretch of beach between Williams Ave to Symons Ave

Pallarenda Beach; between points eight and nine, situated north of Townsville.

Four Mile Beach; owners can walk their dogs on the southern end of Four Mile Beach in Port Douglas.

VICTORIA

Elwood Beach, Victoria; located near St Kilda allows access during Winter, and between 5.30am and 9.30am over Summer. 

McCrae; on the Mornington Peninsula with soft white sand and shallow waters perfect for wading.

Altona, PA Burns Reserve; a perfect spot at low tide with views across Williamstown, Melbourne city and Port Phillip Bay.

Lorne: a long stretch of beach that's perfect for your dog to run.

WESTERN AUSTRALIA

South Fremantle dog beach, Perth; located on the northern segment of South Beach with an off-leash area that extends to the grassy dog-friendly park behind the beach.

Bunker Bay; a little stretch of beach in the Margaret River Region, backing onto pristine national park.

Gnarabup Beach, Margaret River; one of the most popular swimming beaches in the area with dogs welcome.

Lights Beach, Denmark; a rocky stretch of beach for your pooch to explore with majestic ocean views.

Reddell Beach, Broome; a pet-friendly beach that's a favourite for Broome locals -with stark contrasts of red soil bordering white sands.

Mosman - Leighton Beach; a two kilometre stretch of beach set below the dunes - you can let your pooch run wild.

Swanbourne; south of City Beach there is plenty of fun to be had within these crystal blue waters.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA

Sellicks beach, Adelaide; located within the City of Onkaparinga and allows dogs roaming free 24/7.

Christie Beach, Adelaide; a popular spot with loads of dogs for your pooch to have fun with. 

Henley Beach, Adelaide; a great weekend spot with a number of dog-friendly cafe's nearby
