PROTECTING CONSUMERS FROM NASTY INGREDIENTS
A Hong Kong Consumer Council report released in July 2016 analysed 60 popular Body Washes and found the preservative methylisthiazolinone (MIT) in around half of them at varying levels. And many of the highest concentrations were in the well-known global brands. This preservative is not allowed in leave-on products and restricted to very low concentrations in wash off products in Europe due to increasing reports of nasty reactions. Like Australia, HK has no regulations at all with respect to ingredients in cosmetic or household products -it is up to companies to self-regulate and the consumer to make good choices.
